Hotend & Nozzle Maintenance

Choosing the right nozzle

The P1S ships with a standard brass nozzle by default (unlike the X1 Carbon's hardened-steel standard). If you plan to print carbon or glass-fiber filled filaments, upgrade to a hardened-steel nozzle first — a plain brass one wears out quickly against abrasive materials.

Signs of a worn nozzle

  • Inconsistent extrusion width even after fresh calibration
  • Slight under-extrusion a filament swap doesn't fix
  • Visible wear or an oval-shaped opening on close inspection

Clearing a clog

  1. Try a filament unload/reload cycle at the correct temperature for the loaded material first.
  2. If extrusion is still restricted, a hot pull followed by a cold pull as the nozzle cools through the material's solidification range usually clears it.
  3. A clog that returns at the same spot usually means nozzle replacement, not repeated cleaning.

Warning: Never pick at a hot nozzle opening with a metal tool while it's mounted and powered — follow the proper cold/hot pull procedure instead.
