HMS Error Code Reference (Overview)
Bambu printers report structured HMS codes like 0700-8004-1225-08 on-screen and in the Handy app rather than plain English error names. Each segment identifies a subsystem, so you can narrow down the problem even before searching for the exact code.
Reading the code
- The first group generally identifies the subsystem (AMS, extruder, hotend, motion system, etc).
- Later groups narrow to the specific fault and severity.
- The full official lookup table is maintained on Bambu Lab's wiki — always check there for the exact code you're seeing, since new codes are added with firmware updates.
The most common categories you'll encounter
Filament / AMS feed errors — "Unable to feed filament into the extruder" means the AMS pushed filament but the toolhead's hall sensor never confirmed it arrived. Usually a jam at the PTFE junction or a spool binding in the AMS. See AMS Filament Jams & Loading Failures.
Nozzle temperature errors — similar in spirit to Prusa's thermal-runaway protection: the printer halts if the nozzle isn't heating as expected, to protect against a wiring or thermistor fault.
Motion system errors — reported when a stepper motor stalls or an axis doesn't reach its expected position, often from a mechanical obstruction.
Camera / AI detection stops — the X1 Carbon's built-in camera can pause a print automatically if it detects a failed print (spaghetti detection). This is a safety feature, not a hardware fault.
Tip: Before deep-diving a specific code, try the universal first fixes: power-cycle the printer fully (not just pause/resume), reseat the affected spool or cable, and check for obvious debris in the AMS buffer or PTFE path — these resolve a large share of HMS alerts.
