Wi-Fi, LAN & Cloud Connectivity
Cloud mode vs. LAN-only mode
By default, the X1 Carbon connects through Bambu's cloud service, which enables remote monitoring and control from anywhere via the Handy app. LAN-only mode disables this and keeps all communication on your local network — useful if you want to control the printer only while on the same network, without data passing through the manufacturer's servers. You can switch modes from the touchscreen network settings.
Common connection issues
Won't connect during setup
Most X1 Carbon units need a 2.4GHz network for the initial pairing step, even though they support 5GHz for regular use afterward. If your router broadcasts a combined SSID for both bands, temporarily splitting them (or using your router's guest 2.4GHz network) usually resolves this.
Drops mid-print
- Check your router's DHCP lease time — a very short lease combined with a busy network can occasionally cause a brief reconnect that interrupts a monitoring session (though a properly configured printer continues the physical print even if Wi-Fi drops briefly).
- Move the printer or your router if signal strength is marginal — the enclosure and any metal furniture nearby can attenuate Wi-Fi more than expected.
Handy app shows "offline" but the printer is printing fine
This is usually a cloud connectivity issue, not a print issue — the physical print continues regardless of app connectivity. Check your internet connection, or switch to LAN-only mode and use Bambu Studio's local device discovery instead if this happens often.
Tip: If you manage multiple printers or prefer not to rely on cloud servers at all, LAN-only mode plus Bambu Studio's local send is the most reliable combination for day-to-day printing.
