Frequently Asked Questions
How is the P1S different from the X1 Carbon?
The P1S is Bambu's more affordable enclosed CoreXY printer — it lacks the X1 Carbon's LiDAR sensor and full AI-assisted first-layer inspection, and ships with a standard brass nozzle rather than hardened steel. It's fully compatible with the same AMS unit and shares much of the same software and HMS error system.
Do I need the AMS to use this printer?
No — the P1S prints single-material/single-color fine via the side filament port without one.
Can I print carbon-fiber or glass-fiber filaments?
Yes, but upgrade to a hardened-steel nozzle first — see Hotend & Nozzle Maintenance; the stock brass nozzle wears quickly against abrasive materials.
Is it safe to leave printing unattended?
Camera-based print monitoring (added via firmware) can catch and pause an obviously failed print, but as with any heated appliance, don't treat this as a substitute for basic precautions on very long unattended runs.
Do I need Bambu's cloud service?
No — see Wi-Fi, LAN & Cloud Connectivity for running entirely in LAN-only mode.
Can I upgrade a P1S to X1 Carbon-level features later?
Not fully — the LiDAR sensor is X1 Carbon-specific hardware. Some software/firmware-level features do reach the P1 series over time, but the core sensor difference isn't a user upgrade.
