Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the AMS to use this printer?
No. The X1 Carbon prints single-material/single-color fine without it via the side filament port. The AMS adds automatic multi-material and multi-color printing, plus a moisture-reducing storage bay for each spool.
Is it safe to leave printing unattended?
The built-in camera and AI-assisted failure detection (see HMS Error Code Reference) can catch and pause a failed print automatically, which is a meaningful safety feature — but as with any heated appliance, don't treat this as a substitute for basic precautions like ventilation and a nearby smoke detector on very long unattended runs.
How loud is it?
Quieter than most open-frame printers at normal speeds, thanks to the enclosure — expect airflow/cooling fan noise as the main contributor rather than motor noise.
Can I print carbon-fiber and glass-fiber filaments?
Yes — the printer ships with a hardened-steel nozzle for exactly this reason. See Hotend & Nozzle Maintenance for wear signs to watch for if you swap to a plain brass nozzle for other materials.
What if my AMS spool runs out mid-print?
With a compatible spool of the same or a similar material loaded in another AMS slot, the printer can automatically continue on the new spool. Without a substitute available, it pauses and waits for a spool swap.
Do I need Bambu's cloud service?
No — see Wi-Fi, LAN & Cloud Connectivity for running entirely in LAN-only mode instead.
