First-Time Setup & Calibration

Unboxing

  1. Remove all shipping foam, zip-ties, and the paper securing the toolhead and bed — as with any CoreXY Bambu printer, printing before removing these causes a collision.
  2. Check the accessory box for the spare nozzle, tool kit, and (if purchased) the AMS unit — the P1S uses the same AMS as the X1 Carbon.
  3. Place the printer on a stable, level surface with clearance for the enclosure doors and airflow.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. Install the Bambu Handy app and create/sign in to a Bambu account.
  2. From the touchscreen, select your Wi-Fi network — most units need 2.4GHz for initial pairing. See Wi-Fi, LAN & Cloud Connectivity if you only have 5GHz available.
  3. Follow the in-app pairing flow.

Running first-time calibration

  1. Run the full calibration sequence from the touchscreen or Handy app — vibration compensation and bed leveling in one pass, same as the X1 Carbon.
  2. If you have an AMS, load your first spool and run a filament calibration for it — see AMS Setup & Filament Loading.
  3. Print the bundled first-print test model before your own designs.

What's different from the X1 Carbon

The P1S doesn't have the X1 Carbon's LiDAR sensor, so it can't do the same automatic first-layer LiDAR inspection — a camera-based AI monitoring feature was added to the P1 series via firmware update instead, which catches gross print failures (like a knocked-loose print) but is a different mechanism than the X1's LiDAR-assisted first-layer scan.

Tip: Keep the printer and AMS firmware updated before your first serious print — see Firmware Updates & Bambu Studio Profiles.
