First-Time Setup & Calibration

Unboxing

  1. Remove all shipping foam, zip-ties, and the paper securing the toolhead and bed — the printer ships with the gantry and bed clamped in place for transit, and printing before removing these will cause a collision.
  2. Check the accessory box for the included spare nozzle, tool kit, and (if purchased) the AMS unit.
  3. Place the printer on a stable, level surface with clearance on all sides for the enclosure doors and airflow.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. Install the Bambu Handy app (or use Bambu Studio on desktop) and create/sign in to a Bambu account.
  2. From the printer's touchscreen, go to network settings and select your Wi-Fi network. The X1 Carbon needs a 2.4GHz network for initial pairing on most units — see Wi-Fi, LAN & Cloud Connectivity if you only have 5GHz available.
  3. Follow the in-app pairing flow to bind the printer to your account.

Running first-time calibration

The X1 Carbon automates most of the calibration a MK3S+ owner would do manually:

  1. From the touchscreen or Handy app, run the full calibration sequence — this covers vibration compensation and bed leveling in one pass.
  2. If you have an AMS, load your first spool and run a filament calibration for it (see AMS Setup & Filament Loading).
  3. Print the bundled first-print test model before moving to your own designs — it's a good sanity check on both mechanical and calibration health.

Tip: Keep the printer's firmware and the AMS's own firmware updated before your first serious print — see Firmware Updates & Bambu Studio Profiles. Bambu ships meaningful calibration improvements in firmware updates fairly often.
